Our physicians specialize in treating--  All non-surgical musculoskeletal injuries.


We are also interested in evaluating and trying to help anyone that has pain that has not been definitively diagnosed.

The Rehab Doctors are located at 1136 Jackson Blvd in Rapid City, SD.  Dr. Lawlor, a native of Rapid City, started the practice in 1997.  He was joined by Dr. Christopher Dietrich in 2005, Dr. Peter Vonderau in 2009, and Dr. Trevor Anderson in 2012.  Each of our physicians are Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Our physicians specialize in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of low back, neck, musculoskeletal, and sports injuries.  They perform electromyography studies (EMGs) to assist in the diagnosis of nerve and muscle-related disorders.  They also provide a wide-range of procedures under fluoroscopic (xray) or ultrasound guidance, including epidural injections, selective nerve root blocks, facet joint injections and radiofrequency neurotomy, lumbar discography, sacroiliac joint injections, stellate ganglion blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, peripheral joint injections, and Botox injections.

Christopher Dietrich, M.D.

Dr. Dietrich is a Huron, South Dakota native. He attended The University of South Dakota where he obtained his undergraduate and masters degrees. He then attended The University of South Dakota School of Medicine graduating Cum Laude with his MD. Dr. Dietrich completed his residency and specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Mayo Clinic where he served as chief resident. He is board certified by the ABPMR.


Dr. Dietrich has special interests in pain medicine, sports medicine, and interventional pain procedures. He also is certified by The Titleist Performance Institute as a golf medicine and fitness evaluator. Dr. Dietrich also writes a monthly column on sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries for the Rapid City Journal.

Brett Lawlor, M.D.

Dr. Brett Lawlor is a native of Rapid City, South Dakota. He holds Bacehlor's Degrees from The University of Utah and the University of South Dakota, and a Master of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Health Administration from the University of South Dakota. He has his MD from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Doctor Lawlor did his internship year and speciality training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and served as chief resident during his final year of speciality training. Dr. Lawlor is Board Certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in Pain Medicine.

Dr. Lawlor has a special interest in interventional pain medicine, nonsurgical treatment of neurologic and musculoskeletal injuries and diseases with a special emphasis in treating neck and back pain, sports medicine and electrodiagnositc testing (EMG/Nerve conduction studies) Dr. Lawlor also writes a monthly column on sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries for the Rapid City Journal.

Dr. Peter Vonderau is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.  He earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and graduated with honors from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, OH.  He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where served as chief resident during his final year.

Dr. Vonderau pursued additional training in interventional spine procedures at the Institute for Low Back and Neck Care in Minneapolis, MN.  He worked for Hovis Orthopaedic Clinic in Knoxville, TN, for 3 years before relocating to Rapid City.  Dr. Vonderau is a board-certified physiatrist specializing in the non-surgical treatment of neck and back pain, nerve injuries, sports medicine, and work-related injuries.  He performs electrodiagnostic testing (EMG) and spine procedures such as epidural steroid injections.

Dr. Trevor Anderson is a native of Spearfish, SD.  He earned his undergraduate degrees in math and physics and his M.D. at the University of South Dakota.  Dr. Anderson then completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota where he served as chief resident.

He then completed a year-long fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Minnesota.  He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Anderson has special interest in interventional pain management, ultrasound-guided injections, neuropathic pain, EMG and botulinum toxin injections for headache, cervical dystonia and spasticity.

Crystal is a Winner, South Dakota native. She completed undergraduate studies at Northern Wyoming Community College and the University of Washington. She is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Training Program.

The Rehab Doctors provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art procedures at Black Hills Surgical Hospital, Rapid City Regional Hospital, and Spearfish Surgery Center.

 

In the Pain Clinic, various procedures are performed to both diagnose and treat the source of the patient's pain.  Injections are performed with laser guidance under fluoroscopy (xray) for precise needle placement, optimizing both safety and treatment efficacy.

  • Joint aspiration to diagnose gout or other types of arthritis

The Rehab Doctors accept patients on referral from Physicians, Chiropractors, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practioners, Physical Therapists and Nurse Case Managers. We are happy to see patients on self referral and referral from our former or current patients or their family members.

We make every effort to schedule your appointment as quickly as possible. We understand that you may be in pain and don't want of have to wait too long to be seen by one of our physicians. If you feel your appointment is scheduled too far out then please let our receptionist know as we will make every effort to accomodate you as quickly as possible.

We gladly accept most major insurance in addition to Work Comp, Medicare, TriCare, VA, IHS, and T-19.
